There may be moments in grief when words feel difficult to
find.
When your heart is full… and yet, somehow, quiet at the same time.
If you’ve come here carrying loss — whether recent or
long-held —
you are not alone in this tender space.
These
prayers for grief are offered gently,
as something you can return to when your own words feel far away.
You may read them slowly, whisper them, or simply rest alongside them.
However you arrive here today… you are welcome.
Dear God,
I come to You just as I am…
with a heart that feels heavy, tired, and unsure.
Please draw near to me in this moment.
Hold me gently in Your presence,
and bring a quiet sense of peace where I need it most.
When I don’t have the words,
hear the ones I cannot say.
When the weight feels too much,
be the strength that carries me through.
Stay with me, Lord —
in this moment, and in the moments to come.
Amen
You may wish to return to this prayer whenever you need a
quiet moment of comfort…
or simply rest here for a little while.
And if you feel ready, you might explore the prayers below —
moving gently, and choosing what feels most supportive for you today.
These prayers for grief are written for different moments that many people experience after loss.
There may be moments in grief when everything can feel like
too much to carry.
When your chest feels tight, your thoughts feel scattered,
and even the smallest things may feel harder than usual.
If this is where you find yourself today,
this prayer is offered gently for you.
Dear God,
You see the weight I am carrying,
even the parts I cannot fully put into words.
Please come close to me in this heaviness.
Sit with me in the quiet,
and remind me that I do not have to hold all of this on my own.
Wrap Your presence around me like a soft shelter.
Ease the tightness in my heart,
and gently fill me with Your peace.
Help me take this one moment at a time,
knowing that You are with me in each step.
Amen
“The
Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
Sometimes grief may leave you feeling quiet inside.
You may want to pray, but not know where to begin.
Or perhaps your thoughts feel tired and distant,
and even a few simple words feel hard to reach.
If this is where you are today,
you do not need to force anything.
This prayer is here to gently hold the words for you.
Dear God,
I don’t always know how to pray through this grief.
Some days my thoughts feel tangled,
and my heart feels too tired for words.
But even here,
You still see me.
Please stay close to me in the silence.
Remind me that I do not need perfect words,
or perfect faith,
to rest in Your presence.
When I feel empty, be near.
When I feel overwhelmed, bring stillness.
And when I cannot carry my thoughts clearly,
hold the feelings I cannot explain.
Thank You for holding me with such gentleness,
even in moments when I feel uncertain or weary.
Amen
“The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
— Romans 8:26 (NIV)

Grief can be deeply tiring.
Not only emotionally, but physically and spiritually too.
There may be moments when your heart longs for quiet,
for softness,
for a place to rest from carrying so much.
If you are feeling weary today,
this prayer is offered
gently for you.
Dear God,
My heart feels tired in ways I cannot fully explain.
Please draw me into Your peace,
and let my heart rest in You.
Help me release the pressure to hold everything together.
Remind me that rest is not weakness,
and that I do not need to carry this grief alone.
When my thoughts feel heavy,
bring stillness.
When my spirit feels worn down,
wrap me in Your comfort and care.
Let Your presence be a soft place for my heart to rest today.
Amen
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
There can be moments in grief when even ordinary things can
feel more difficult than usual.
Making decisions, speaking with others, or simply meeting each moment as it
comes may ask more of your heart than it once did.
If today feels especially heavy or uncertain,
this prayer is offered gently for you.
Dear God,
Please give me strength for this day,
and be with me through each moment it brings.
When grief feels overwhelming,
steady my heart.
When I feel fragile or discouraged,
softly remind me that I do not have to face this alone.
Help me move gently through this day,
without pressure to have all the answers or all the strength.
When I feel weary, carry me.
When I feel uncertain, stay beside me.
And when hope feels distant,
help me notice the quiet light of Your presence.
Thank You for never leaving me,
and for holding me with gentleness, compassion, and love.
Amen
“So
do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.”
— Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
Watching someone you care about move through grief can feel tender and helpless at the same time.
You may wish you could ease their pain,
carry part of their sorrow,
or simply find the right words to comfort them.
If someone you love is grieving today,
this prayer is offered gently for them.
Dear God,
Please surround this hurting heart with comfort and care.
Be near to them in moments that feel lonely, overwhelming,
or deeply heavy.
Hold them gently through the waves of grief that come and go,
and remind them that they do not have to walk this path alone.
Give them strength for each day,
rest when they are weary,
and moments of peace when sorrow feels especially close.
Help them feel supported, loved, and safely held —
both by the people around them and by Your presence beside them.
And if there are ways I can quietly support them,
guide me with gentleness, patience, and compassion too.
Amen
"Praise be to... the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles..."
— 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (NIV)
